Multi-input Schrödinger equation: controllability, tracking, and application to the quantum angular momentum

We present a sufficient condition for approximate controllability of the bilinear discretespectrum Schrödinger equation exploiting the use of several controls. The controllability result extends to simultaneous controllability, approximate controllability in Hs, and tracking in modulus. The result is more general than those present in the literature even in the case of one control and permits to treat situations in which the spectrum of the uncontrolled operator is very degenerate (e.g. it has multiple eigenvalues or equal gaps among different pairs of eigenvalues). We apply the general result to a rotating polar linear molecule, driven by three orthogonal external fields. A remarkable property of this model is the presence of infinitely many degeneracies and resonances in the spectrum preventing the application of the results in the literature.

Control of the bilinear Schrödinger equation for fully coupling potentials
We present a general result of approximate controllability for the bilinear Schrödinger equation (with wave function varying in the unit sphere of an infinite dimensional Hilbert space), under the hypothesis that the Schrödinger operator has discrete spectrum and that the control potential couples all eigenstates. The control method is based on a tracking procedure for the Galerkin approximatio...
متن کاملQuantum Canonical Transformations and Exact Solution of the Schrödinger Equation
Time-dependent unitary transformations are used to study the Schrödinger equation for explicitly timedependent Hamiltonians of the form H(t) = ~ R(t) · ~ J , where ~ R is an arbitrary real vector-valued function of time and ~ J is the angular momentum operator. The solution of the Schrödinger equation for the most general Hamiltonian of this form is shown to be equivalent to the special case ~ ...
متن کاملControllability of the bilinear Schrödinger equation with several controls and application to a 3D molecule
We show the approximate rotational controllability of a polar linear molecule by means of three nonresonant linear polarized laser fields. The result is based on a general approximate controllability result for the bilinear Schrödinger equation, with wavefunction varying in the unit sphere of an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space and with several control potentials, under the assumption that th...
متن کاملControllability of the 1D Schrödinger equation by the flatness approach
We derive in a straightforward way the exact controllability of the 1-D Schrödinger equation with a Dirichlet boundary control. We use the so-called flatness approach, which consists in parameterizing the solution and the control by the derivatives of a “flat output”. This provides an explicit control input achieving the exact controllability in the energy space. As an application, we derive an...
متن کاملLimitations on the Control of Schrödinger Equations
We give the definitions of exact and approximate controllability for linear and nonlinear Schrödinger equations, review fundamental criteria for controllability and revisit a classical “No–go” result for evolution equations due to Ball, Marsden and Slemrod. In Section 2 we prove corresponding results on non– controllability for the linear Schrödinger equation and distributed additive control, a...
